SS Grotesk [2 Style]

The photographic practice of Selim Süme approaches the image not as an answer, but as a question. His work moves in a circular rhythm: from subjective documentary to the instability of representation, and back again to the ordinary.

Within this movement, the everyday is never merely documentary. Ordinary moments become surfaces through which the contradictions, ambiguities, and tensions of life begin to emerge. SS-Grotesk was designed around this very idea.

Much like grotesque typefaces once perceived as unfamiliar before becoming part of everyday visual culture, Süme’s photographs carry an unusual tension hidden within the ordinary. The letterforms exist in a shifting space between familiarity and estrangement, fiction and documentation, chance and structure. SS-Grotesk repositions writing itself as something to be looked at again — something momentarily unfamiliar.

And although every typeface eventually becomes ordinary through use, until then SS-Grotesk remains suspended between the familiar and the strange.
